Who Can Benefit from MLD?
- Lymphedema or post-surgical swelling
- Post-injury or post-operative recovery
- Chronic fluid retention or edema
- Promoting relaxation and supporting detoxification
- Skin healing and scar management

What to Expect in an MLD Appointment
- A comfortable, relaxing environment
- Gentle, rhythmic massage targeting the lymphatic system
- Education on self-care and at-home techniques
- Bandaging when indicated for enhanced results
What is bandaging:
Bandaging is the use of specialized wraps or garments to support the lymphatic system after MLD therapy. The goal is to help maintain the reduction of swelling, improve lymph flow, and prevent fluid from building up again.
How It Works
- Multi-layered wraps are often used, combining padding and elastic bandages.
- The pressure is gentle and graded, usually tighter at the distal parts of a limb and looser closer to the body.
- Helps redirect lymph fluid toward healthy lymph pathways.
- Can be worn for a period after therapy, often adjusted as swelling decreases.
Who Benefits
- Individuals with lymphedema
- Post-surgical swelling (e.g., after mastectomy or cosmetic surgery)
- Chronic edema or fluid retention
- People recovering from injury or trauma that causes swelling
Why It’s Done Alongside MLD
MLD moves fluid toward healthy lymph nodes, and bandaging helps “hold” that improvement between sessions. Think of it as reinforcing the effects of the massage.
