CBT: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Learn practical techniques to challenge negative thoughts and alter behaviors

Short-term, goal-oriented therapy for anxiety, depression, and stress

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a highly effective, short-term form of “brief therapy” based on the premise that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all interconnected. By shifting how we perceive a situation, we can change how we feel and, ultimately, how we respond.

Addressing Modern Challenges

CBT is a goal-oriented approach designed to address present-day challenges that impact your mental health and overall quality of life. It is commonly used to treat:

  • Symptoms of depression or anxiety
  • Relationship concerns
  • Anger management
  • Stress and burnout
  • Other common mental health concerns

The primary goal of treatment is to help you identify, challenge, and eventually change maladaptive thought patterns. By doing so, you can transform your emotional and behavioral responses to difficult or triggering situations.

What to Expect During Treatment

For most concerns, CBT involves a structured course of 6 to 12 sessions, each lasting 50 minutes. Your journey typically follows this progression:

  • Goal Setting: At the start of treatment, you and your counselor will discuss your current challenges and establish clear, measurable treatment goals.
  • Skill Building: Once goals are set, sessions focus on learning specific techniques to challenge your symptoms and change target behaviors.
  • Active Practice: Weekly homework is a core component of CBT. This may include monitoring your thoughts, challenging long-held assumptions, and experimenting with new ways of behaving in your daily life.
Frequency and Momentum

Consistency is key to seeing results. At the beginning of therapy, it is important to meet once a week to build momentum and master the foundational skills. As you become more confident in using these techniques independently, the time between appointments is typically increased to once every two weeks or once a month.

Flexible Therapy Options

We offer both online and in-person options to suit your schedule and comfort level. Clinical research has proven that video-based CBT treatment is just as effective as face-to-face therapy, allowing you to access high-quality care from the convenience of your home.
